To celebrate that September is National Hispanic Heritage Month, we have chosen to feature some of our Spanish-language books. Others are featured in our Sales Catalogue.

For International Literacy Day (September 8th) and Grandparent’s Day (September 13th) we are featuring I Feel Overwhelmed When I Fall Down from our I Feel... When… series, which is designed to help children learn to read.

Me Llamo Schnukiputz

Spanish-language books in the Emotatudes series

Written by Karen White Porter and Christi Grace Porter. Illustrated by Karen White Porter

Getting the bejeebers scared out of you paints a picture of what is happening inside of you when you are frightened. Having a conniption tells us more about our inner life than just 'being angry.' Having 'a case of the blues' explains more than just 'being sad.' What do these nouns look like, feel like or sound like? The answer to that question will help us unlock the passion of our inner worlds in living color with sound and movement.

We really can't control how many emotional experiences we will have, but we can control how we will deal with them, and we can ask questions about what needs to be done in emotionally charged situations. The Emotatudes series is a tool to teach emotionally intelligent children who will become the more caring citizens of tomorrow.

To celebrate Grandparent's Day...

I Feel Overwhelmed When I Fall Down

Written and illustrated by Karen White Porter, Edited by Dr. James Robert Porter, LMHC

A peaceful afternoon at the park takes an unexpected turn in this poignant addition to the I Feel… When… series.

Ed and his grandmother cherish their routine: quiet walks through the trees to feed the local birds. But when a hidden rock causes Grandma to trip and fall, the calm of the afternoon is suddenly shattered. For Ed, seeing someone he leans on become vulnerable triggers a wave of overwhelming emotion—a mix of fear, confusion, and a frantic desire to help.

This story provides a gentle, age-appropriate look at how children process "big" emergencies. As Ed and his grandmother navigate the immediate aftermath of the fall, readers see a model of resilience and mutual support. It highlights that while we cannot always prevent accidents, we can control how we respond to them through calm action and emotional honesty.

I Feel... When... series

Written and Illustrated by Karen White Porter, Edited by Dr. James Robert Porter, LMHC

In Karen White Porter’s I Feel… When… series, the Feeling Friends demonstrate how to handle feelings. See how these furry friends learn appropriate ways to express feelings and solve problems by coping with their feelings through listening to one another and observing each other without judgement, expressing feelings and needs, and coping with feelings in compassionate and helpful ways. This colorful series opens the door to discussing emotions in an easy way for younger audiences.

"The 'I Feel ... When ...' book series demonstrates non-violent communication and expression of feelings to new readers. This is the only children's book series I have come across that does this in my many years of practice."

- Dr. Cheryl Remington Phd., School Psychologist

"This book series is perfect for my two granddaughters to learn how to share their feelings with one another and get along at an early age."

- Helen Hooley, grandmother

Beginning sight words are used in the narrative. If children can memorize these words well enough to recognize them by sight, they can read faster with confidence. The I Feel… When… books also use nonviolent communication as described by psychotherapist Dr. Jim Porter and Karen Porter in their weekly show 'Feeling Fridays' on their YouTube channel 'Dealing with Feelings' The husband-and-wife team invites you to explore feelings with your young reader as they begin to read.

This series combines with the Emotatudes picture book series that examines how we vibrationally feel inside, the Emotion Mandala picture book, and the Emotion Mandala coloring book.

"This is a great series for helping children identify their feelings, and express them appropriately."

- Dr. Nancy Perry, Child Psychologist
