Barbara Hembree Bockman attended West Buncombe Elementary and Lee H. Edwards High Schools in Ashville, North Carolina. The highlight of her day was walking to the bus stop, looking at the amazing Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance. Barbara was almost never without a book in her hand, except when romping through fields and woods with her cousin, Nancy.
As an avid reader, Barbara earned her BA in English from Western Carolina College, a BA in Library Science from Mississippi University for Women, and a Master’s Degree in English from the University of West Florida. She taught English at Pensacola State College. Moving on, she began writing and published six picture books and three middle grade novels. Barbara has travelled widely.
Her many grandchildren inspire her with ideas for new books. She depends heavily on her critique groups to help her improve her writing: SCBWI, and Writers Alliance of Gainesville's Creative Cronies.
