Author, Illustrator, BFA Hofstra University, M.Ed. and Rutgers University, NBCT.
In 2007 Karen White Porter developed her own curriculum that builds emotional intelligence, and started her own school, Loga Springs Academy in Gainesville, Florida. Karen is currently a Director of Loga Springs Academy, a Nationally Board Certified Teacher, and a Director at Everfield Press.
After working for over 25 years helping young people identify their feelings and learning passions, she decided she wanted to provide tools to build emotional intelligence to a wider audience.
She has developed several children’s book series and is currently working to bring them to print for a wider audience. Her most recent and popular works are How to be Heebie Jeebie Free, What to Do When You Get the Bejeebers Scared Out of You, The Secret of Warm Fuzzies, Picking Up the Pieces of a Conniption Fit, and Turtle One and Turtle Two. Abby’s Read Along Sing Along Picture Books are still used as classroom readers in Pinellas County Schools.
Karen Porter's latest picture book, I Feel Sick When I Throw Up is the 26th installment in her popular I Feel... When... series. It will be available for purchase July 2026.
With kindness and a calm head, Deb helps her friend Cal navigate the "scary unknowns" of being sick, showing him that while throwing up is unpleasant, it is a natural way for the body to get rid of germs and start the healing process.
Join Karen Porter as she delves into feelings on her YouTube channel, Dealing with Feeling. Meet some of Karen’s storybook characters, such as Ada the Feeling Friend from the I Feel… When… series, and Dr. Herman Hinrick Kich from the Emotatudes series. Through art, research, music, and tea we take a journey together exploring the emotional landscape of what we think makes us human, and alive.
Proven outcomes that speak for themselves and make a meaningful difference for your business.

Feeling sick is never easy, but it’s especially scary when it’s something a child has never experienced before. In this honest and helpful addition to the I Feel… When… series, Cal is feeling very unwell. His tummy is tumbling, his head is heavy, and he realizes he’s about to experience something new and frightening: throwing up.
Thankfully, Cal isn’t alone. His friend Deb steps in to be the ultimate caregiver. With kindness and a calm head, she helps Cal navigate the "scary unknowns" of being sick, showing him that while throwing up is unpleasant, it is a natural way for the body to get rid of germs and start the healing process.

Emotatudes are little vibratory beings that display what emotions look like, sound like, and act like. Emotatudology gives our feelings names and even paint pictures of what they look like.
Getting the bejeebers scared out of you paints a picture of what is happening inside of you when you are frightened. Having a conniption tells us more about our inner life than just 'being angry.' Having 'a case of the blues' explains more than just 'being sad.' What do these nouns look like, feel like or sound like? The answer to that question will help us unlock the passion of our inner worlds in living color with sound and movement.
We really can't control how many emotional experiences we will have, but we can control how we will deal with them, but we can ask questions about what needs to be done in emotionally charged situations. The Emotatudes series is a tool to teach emotionally intelligent children who will become the more caring citizens of tomorrow.

In Karen White Porter’s I Feel… When… series, the Feeling Friends demonstrate how to handle feelings. See how these furry friends learn appropriate ways to express feelings and solve problems by coping with their feelings through listening to one another and observing each other without judgement, expressing feelings and needs, and coping with feelings in compassionate and helpful ways. This colorful series opens the door to discussing emotions in an easy way for younger audiences.
Beginning sight words are used in the narrative. If children can memorize these words well enough to recognize them by sight, they can read faster with confidence. The I Feel… When… books also use nonviolent communication as described by psychotherapist Dr. Jim Porter and Karen Porter in their weekly show 'Feeling Fridays' on their YouTube channel 'Dealing with Feelings' The husband-and-wife team invites you to explore feelings with your young reader as they begin to read.
This series combines with the Emotatudes picture book series that examines how we vibrationally feel inside, the Emotion Mandala picture book, and the Emotion Mandala coloring book.
